a town with brick and bunnies

i like flirting with german men; their corduroy suits drive me wild.
i have fallen in with a nice cadre of people, most of whom are grad students – african americanists and germanists – some german; some american; some black; some white.
here, unlike other bigger meetings, "famous" scholars are speaking with junior scholars routinely and thoughtfully.

there is, of course, some messed up race stuff going on, but i have heard some very sensitive, smart, thought-provoking papers.

i also heard one bad one. it was very lame. and he abused powerpoint. it was just gross.

still and all, it is very nice to be among friends and colleagues. i have imagined new ways to think of my work. and renewed my desire to study german seriously. maybe soon?

ask me sometime about:
the tuskegee airman who was a german pow and hasn't been back to germany in 61 years. “i didn’t fight for our country; i fought for my country.”
doing yoga mit isa und tiffany in my hotel room.
my retort to the self-described independently wealthy sociologist “when will you start collecting black people?”
the breakfast spead at my hotel.
how much i want to take pictures of:
the sprig of cherries in the public park
the bunnies in the central ring
the trampoline
my toilet room
the tea diffuser, holder and pot at breakfast
the skin of practically every building here
