thirsty thursday

another manic, frantic day.

everything in arborland is green. thus, i have dipped into my allegra D supply already; my mouth is dry all the time now. it is practically ashy. it is totally welcome to be at the western edge of time zone because we get more light.

did some wonderful things today...great guest gig in a colleague's class. it was for an undergrad course that i will teach next year. it was a great group of students -- they asked good questions and the images of langston and the stories about the work there really drew them in. i remembered today some of the funnier stranger things about that time -- winding up in the principal's office, going to the boy/girl birthday party, dealing with the girls, making reading dates and deals. the insistence and promise that "the sun shines everyday at langston." i am looking forward to the energy of a lecture hall. i would like to change the dynamic that i have now with these "grad" "seminars." and i am looking forward to getting back to the playgrounds of d.c.

then, off to scan some old streetcar maps of d.c. that i found out here. of course michigan would own them. great stuff there for me. i was totally disruptive in the archive with the way i carried on about what i was finding. hustled to north campus to meet the planning students at the bentley. they seemed overwhelmed and enthused. i am just so thrilled to get planning students into an archive looking at city directories and real estate maps and papers of the urban league. then, i went to have someone work on the bum ankle that still confounds. he really helped. he was funny: as he looked at my ankle, he got excited and said i took a final in feet one time. hilarious. then, jetted home to stow my bag and change my clothes + shoes. shuttled off to hear the yes men at the michigan. it was really just one yes man. he showed a bunch of the movies. they are clever bits and brilliant work. sitll admire the bbc/dow/union carbide thing. genius, but the guy himself was smaller than life.

then l-j g-h and i met mh out for a sandwich and some beers. nice chatting and chewing. i will be back for their graduation. hurrah!

home. late. now. again.

too many email to write. must sleep now.
