dogwalking: a real rush

jasmine has three moms.
kd md, her principal mom, is the ob/gyn.
skm is mom #2 -- kd md and i call her mia mom because she's checked out a lot.
and then there's me: mom #3. the mom who curses.
this morning, i held the lead while j
asmine lumbered through the neighborhood. (kd md is on call...dealing with vaginas and fallopian tubes for 24 hours+ straight).many of our neighbors have dogs. most keep them behind fences or otherwise restrained. as i rounded the corner, three blocks from home, i realized that not everyone observes the practice, including our neighbors who have a dachshund.
this little tiny "dog" rushed jasmine and sniffed her all over.
i was so flipping scared that jasmine would move; her big paws inadvertently squishing the lil guy.
she and i will not walk down that street again.
upon reflection, this is hilarious to me because i have been thinking a lot about scale and urban design. in part, because i went to see the show big + small at si.edu african art. and also because juan and i were harping on the design students about the appropriate scale of public plazas.
i can go back to bed now because i learned my new lesson for the day about canine scale, but i have to teach about pueblo housing from 6-9 in the freezer that is my classroom.

KQ - i can totally relate to your experience with the daschund. However, for the record I will state that us pups can hold our own with those that are bigger AND smaller than us. I have lots of small doggy pals that love me. And I love some pretty huge hounds too. I hump one named jake whenever I can get the chance and there is another really large rotweiler that I try to mount but im actually not tall enough. Many of the small guys lick my note and tongue. Its kind of like your human french kissing.
