i am just typing. wouldn't it be grand? if i had my own ball and honored influential people in my life. for real. it would be so fabulous. i would host it at flow yoga center on a weekend when sinead y nico could be in town.

my mom and dad were in town this weekend to visit and to bring me even more of my library. we ate our way around washtenaw county, saw a play at jeff daniels' theater, visited with my cousin gene (who discussed a plot he is hatching to move to germany in two years!), and hung out. it rained the whole weekend, but we made our own sunshine except when i was wigging out about e-v-e-r-y-thing. i think my vitamin D level was too low? perhaps because this was the first weekend in many that i actually stayed in my home and slept in my own bed and i was out of my routine of smiling at TSA and nwa.com employees? i just felt so out of sorts. the kind of bugginess that reminds me of goldilocks -- my porridge was too hot, then too cold; the windshield wipers were too fast, then too slow; and on.

here was a funny exchange over mother's day dinner that we pulled together at my place last night. it features katha reviewing the day's events.

mom: gene, darlin, we went to chelsea to see a play at the purple rose theater. do you know it?
gene: i know chelsea, but i don't know about the theater.
mom: oh. well let me tell you. it's a very nice facility. you know how important it is to have good, i mean strong, regional theaters don't you. it's an enterprise by the actor jeff daniels.
gene: oh really. pause. who is he?
mom: you know....he has been in a lot of films. most recently, the squid and the whale.
gene: no...don't know him.
mom: insisting now...you do, he was in dumb and dumber.
gene: without missing a beat, thanks for bringing it down to my level, aunt kath.

meanwhile, my dad and i, the saggitari were thinking: mmmmmmmm. four michigan berry pie for dessert. mmmmmm.

and here's one other thing i have to say. well, maybe two.

1. meredith grey is not that interesting. i am not hanging on any cliff waiting to see which unshaven white man she will pick.
2. and two, loved that it concluded with a prom. nice touch. this gesture confirms an important finding from dr. liza's dissertation research.
