to conjugate in public, green and democratic spaces
i think that the students in neighborhood planning are super fed up or at least worn out with my emphasis on language. for example, i realize it's the end of the term, but today when one woman was talking about how african americans have different needs for public green spaces; she insisted, "they go to parks in twos and threes to conjugate."
i checked her right there and said: "conjugate? might you mean congregate?" she chortled at least.
after class, she confided that she needed to go home and blog about this. i held my tongue, but thought secretly, "me too."
