dance til the morning sun*
so googs wants to know why i am in germany?
for a conference.
das est gut.
sehr gut. sehr wunderbar.
good sessions yesterday.
good conversation.
i was very favorably impressed with one of the keynotes. i have been admiring this man and his work since i came to read his dissertation while i was at aaa @ si.edu. (we write on roughly the same period.)
but he really won my heart and fandom yesterday. great talk – very very nicely paired images. he did some things like i do – dropping sheaths of paper mid-talk, mid-sentence even. and, unlike me, he retained his composure and his audience. i also really admired during the question and answer, he could call on people by name. even and especially us grad students/junior faculty. he has worked hard to meet people at these meetings, and he treats each person like s/he has something to contribute, something he can learn from. very nice.
i read last night in some promotional and “touristic” information that muenster was one livcom’s “most livable cities in the world” 2004.
now, especially, i wish my planning students were here with me.
i wondered if it qualified because of the separation of circulation, for vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians; the public sculptural program, the extensive and creative use of urban furniture (including a trampoline in a public park); or the extensive and creative offerings of gelato – including toberlone, a cone of which i enjoyed last night. reminded me of cones in sp’s old manhattan neighborhood and issey icy in georgetown where i have licked many happy cones with cmf, mr, bu, y saq + miss bird.
*listening to the brazilian girls right now as i edit my powerpoint in preparation for the talk.

nice. and isn't it a pleasure to witness a big shot speaker who is actually a nice and kind human being?
