shadow puppet theater

today for history of housing, i decided to show the documentary film from the world's fair of 1939 entitled "the city." it is totally, totally heavy-handed propaganda for the planning profession: it valorizes modern planned suburban communities like radburn, roosevelt, greenbelt and on. the michigan library owns a copy of it...it is in fact sort of rare, i guess. but the only copy we own in our collection is on VHS. i needed to make a special trip to the media center to see about whether and how one can aquire a VCR. the staff scoffed at my use of a low-tech media.

i checked them and pointed out that i did not ask for a film projector or an overhead. jason, the boxer, pointed across the room to an overhead projector that they were trying to unload for $15.

i snapped it up.

as soon as i finish the party game for bunderbate's luncheon, i am going to get on my shadow puppet.

with apologies to the indonesian art form, i am so totally going to rock it this summer in the backyard.
