wait where? what?
oxford, ohio, like the state of michigan, is in the eastern time zone. oxford is in southwestern ohio almost to kentucky. it is just outside of cincinnati.
st. louis, missouri is in central time zone. it is close to the illinois border, but it is not close to chicago.
i am an applicant for american studies jobs in both of these cities. i have advanced through the applicant pool to get interviews. the school in oxford, ohio invited me to campus for another three-day interview at their university. it seems like a great job, great colleagues, and a great fit, but one doesn't really know until you get in the car at the airport and start to get the lay of the land. it is a three day interview -- you read that right. just like when i went to the other campus interviews. the entire time i am being interviewed. every moment.
i am not applying to stay at michigan another year. i like it here, but i would also like to have more job security. in the academy, that means getting on a tenure-track. both of these jobs are tenure track positions. i will apply for about another one or two dozen jobs this fall and cross my fingers for more interviews and maybe even more campus visits.
especially because julia and larissa told me i needed to.

very exciting news! a three day interview is killer, but i have every confidence in your grace and smarts.
do learn from my infamous "oops, we forgot to schedule any time for lunch" incident: make sure to bring some luna bars that you can eat in the bathroom stall if need be.
Three day interview! Lions, tigers, bears! Sarah Jessica Parker!
Top Tip: Don't drink a lot of beers and then bring out the incisive and unstoppable "how beer creates employment" chart and try to explicate it.
Instead, always order shots.
That is all.
ROCK ON.
Ohio is wonderful and Oxford is beautiful. The campus is lovely with some very large fraternity / sorority houses if I remember correctly. That kind of creeped me out when I was visiting there. You do also have to explain that you are at Miami of OHIO...You can get Skyline Chili there which may be reason enough to give it serious consideration...
I'm with Donna...perfect description of the area! And Skyline Chili...I think it's calling KQ all the way.
what could they possibly ask for 3 days?
i guess if anyone could succeed in a 3 day interview my bet would be on KQ!
Don't read up on either place by checking the internet. You'll find one little, negative remark that says the town sucks, and it will haunt you forever. Anonanon
