before movies and lectures at the michigan, the organist plays the program in. here, janie's dean looks on and awaits her talk. she offered a loving artistic autobiography about her work and commitment to social justice. the woman behind me openly wept. (i recognized her from the prison creative arts project arts show last spring). i was so excited for janie. surely it is rare that an organist welcome the crowd for a tenure talk; even more uncommon that people in the audience (as opposed to the junior faculty member) cry.
