two for tuesday

i so thoroughly enjoyed my time in chicago with pals. thanks all. and when i say "all" i mean donna because we all know that neither karen nor mary rabatin believe in sharing intimacies via blogspot.

sorry that my eyes are closed in the one picture -- but you know what i look like -- have a look at donna, my partner in pop culture crime. (donna and i shared our time together in jvc in AK). you may know her as don-na or doorbustin' donna? i made karen pose for a picture too in the parking lot of the fancy tapas place we went to in naperville. it was cold and don't you just gather that from karen's body language?

i am working on having some private thoughts. so, donna, i will reply to you privately and off blog about my lunch date yesterday, but briefly, it was great. he laughed at my jokes and offered some of his own. and can you hear my heart beating faster?*

contrary to two students in my undergrad urban planning class, le corbusier is not my bf. but they do find it amusing when i say that to them. so much so two wrote about it on their midterm examination.

yesterday twice i was transported back in time to the hallowed orange halls of lefrak + african american studies. what a gift to have worked there! in fact, a gift, that if i recall correctly, my mother prayed to BVM for. jeremy knew the late great rhonda m. williams when he was an undergrad at yale and knew precisely what a force she was. and then, after his public lecture and the dinner, ira katznelson and i chatted about the late great linda williams. she was his student at chicago. he embraced me hard when i mentioned her name and we extended condolences to each other. here's a picture for you: i.k., after a little wine, reminisced about his days as a bballer...first in high school playing the final two minutes of a game at madison square garden and then when in cambridge when he was assigned to cover bill bradley on man to man. perhaps it was that match up, when bill bradley was all aggressive elbows, made i.k. vow that he would never support him should he run for elective office? and, because my dean needs to make monthly if not weekly appearances on neuroticah...bill bradley was doug's big brother when they were at princeton.

is this entry too name-droppy?

on the drive back from chicago, as i crossed the great state of michigan, the moon was low and round and beautiful -- just like in colin meloy's lyrics.

*jonathan explained to the entire URP faculty recently that this rhetorical device is paralipsis. he blurted this out when one of our other colleagues was holding forth during a faculty meeting. it was hilarious.
