oh la la calatrava

happy st. george's day, especially to my reader in scotland, the charming gardener.

i spent a goodly amount of time crisscrossing madrid yesterday and then made my way to the airport for a total clusterfuck, in the inimitable words of miss bird. i was so wishing that she and ernesto could have been on hand. bird for her droll comments and ernesto for his skills as a cunning linguist. anyway, i got bumped to business class. i am with my pal granite on this one, in that i don't actually believe in the separation of the classes, but sometimes...on airlines, well, okay.

so then, on to bilbao. the airport is wonderful and spectacular. the acoustics are terrible...too many bratty little loud-mouthed children. just like at disney world where there were also entirely too many little children for my liking. but i liked the sequencing of space quite a lot. and as i mentioned, i love me some concrete.

i took a brief walk last night to get some dinner and saw the city at dusk. these spanish sure know how to stage a spectacle. all the buildings and walks are extremely well and seductively lit so that we can see all the tricks: the skin, the mass, the volume. wow. i also slept very very well last night. fully soundly with clenched fists. i had a very odd dream that involved tommy raley from grade school and chris rock. that chris rock. anyway...all in all, v. good.

i am not even going to fret about how much my air travel and kiwi consumption on this trip are amping up my carbon footprint.
