ho-hum
i have been really, really tired and cranky. hence the fewer posts.
a few details about the fabulous life and times of kq:
- i started studio cycling yesterday -- a course that is really spinning but they don't pay for the right to use that word. i am reserving judgment on the class. i have only been once and i shouldn't jump to conclusions. i decided i want new thighs. i miss the body that i had when i was training for events and before all my medicine.
- i started my spring course last night. -- history of housing. i really need a break from teaching, but it's a lot of cash and i would like to be able to buy some first hand furniture from ikea and a proper lux box spring and mattress for my new home in southwestern ohio.
- the town of ann arbor has emptied out. i like it when it is quieter here. it's a nice college town but there are way too many undergraduate students here.
- my colleague eric, an architect, and i chatted yesterday. he is working on a garment that can be worn by women as they go to fetch water at wells. it sounds practically biblical. mindful of the world health organization standards, he is aiming to find a way to use some super low-technology to "sanitize" the water while the women fetch it in developing and forsaken africa. i can't wait for angelina to model it. this is why i love working with designers and problem-solvers.
- doug keeps asking me "when are you leaving?": he asks and then remarks, we should have lunch before you go. but it sounds like "will you get out of here already?" i know that he doesn't mean that, but it is still funny to me and off-putting and curious to the people i am standing with when he spots me and blurts it out.
- a favorite student stephanie came to my office yesterday and brought with her well wishes, and sweet senitments, and a wonderful gift of the very same box of chocolates that tom miri and madeline offered me as a congratulatory gift once upon a time. i was deeply touched. and i cannot help but remark on how those close to me really know how much i love artisanal chocolate and my seven chakras and yoga.
- i am tired.
