keanu, kitchens, and crushes
i wrapped up history of housing last night with student presentations...each person had to share her or his thesis sentence, the best sentence written so far and a simile or metaphor she or she has developed for the paper. some were great. some not so much, but we are working with them. it was fun to listen to students' work and to hear their images. i hope that they enjoyed sitting around talking about ideas and writing. some of them really helped each other. there's this one kid in the class who is so fab--and he's only 19+/-. i can't wait to see what happens with his brain. and his career. i can just tell, especially given his concerns about environmental sustainability, he could be someone who could solve social problems. that's really exciting. and, he is going to take a class with me in the winter. hurrah.
i have a bunch of meetings today to discuss plans for the upcoming year. i started reading twyla tharp's newish book the creative habits. hope it helps. i need to find a morning ritual that doesn't involving rolling over under my duvet.
much work to do this weekend around the house and in town to get ready to get out of here for a few weeks in the midatlantic. i really need to write. wish me luck with that. here are things i am considering doing:
- gary burton quartet and vibraphone in detroit tonight.
- green festival on main street in ann arbor tonight.
- love's labor lost in the arb.
- sketchcrawling with some students
- weeding and working with my plantings
- swimming with jasmine in the huron river
- local radio station birthday bash on sunday at two great great theaters downtown and an outdoor stage
- humping dead squirrels while waiting to see sandra bernhardt's new film starring keanu reeves at the michigan theater.
- the nytimes reported that kitchens featured in films starring diane keaton have been in demand by nesting, acquisitive americans. go figure.
- new hero: suzanne swift. you go! and it was not your fault. unleash your mother and her rage. we need many more countermilitary recruiters.
- i am regretting ever developing and announcing my many, many crushes. what comes around goes around. a handful of students have developed some facebook.com group on crushing on me. humiliation. even though googie assures me it is not that bad.
- jacob the jeweler should go to jail for selling garish diamonds that are absolutely dripping with children's blood not money laundering.
- dang. gotta go because antonin scalia and samuel alito seemed to have just burst through my door with a warrant but without announcing themselves.
- i wish we would have a student uprising today. all thanks to the children of soweto.

isn't it great working with students who either can or will change the world?
humping dead squirrels while waiting to see sandra bernhardt's new film ... say what?
a facebook group about how they have crushes on you = good. a facebook group about how you have crushes on them = not good.
