constant gardener

i wasn't fully prepared for sunday school today. so, instead of dwelling exclusively on today's apocalyptic readings with suns and moons and stars and skies dimming and falling, i recounted the plot of the constant gardener for the children in my sunday school class this morning. (i watched in last night while couch-bound). i told them that we don't need to go to kenya to fight big pharma and the government, we could stick around here and work for justice just like jesus would. and that they were my hope for the future. that we needed to make pledges to each other to save the world. they are such nice little ones. they are so good they practically signed up.

then i screeched out of church and hung out at brunch with a bevy of architectural historian colleagues. all women. we swapped news, strategized, listened to each other, and offered advice and interventions for each other's research, careers and lives. i was in art/architectural historians' hog heaven. i know full well that others might have though the whole pretentious, but i loved it. we were so into each other's business--scholarship, service, curatorial practices, etc. it was grand.

not pretentious at all - sounds like you got yourself a community.
