fatties on ATVs

i should have been blogging overheard at the tabard inn while staying here.

yesterday morning, i was treated to a round of intergenerational conversation about how washington, d.c. is perhaps the only place in the u.s. where one can find thinking employment, that is, where one can find work where you are paid to think.

this morning another round of obnoxious intergenerational conversations. today, between a poet -- evidently who lives mostly in alaska -- and a former student. the student and her partner recently acquired parcels of rural land, where they go occasionally to write. she decried the locals, fatties on ATVs, who rely on technology to trap their deer. her prattle distracted me from the very important NYT magazine piece on princesses.

i am a little wobbly on my spiky black ankle boots this morning, principally because i think that i am dehydrated from all this end of the semester flu-ish foolishness.

yesterday was a very special treat for me...morning face time with barb. midday face time with bird, evening face time with sinead and barb. with many long naps in between and lots of B-R-A-T-T dieting and nibbling.

home is where i can have face time with my girlfriends.

OK, Kelly, the Alaskan poet has me a wee bit curious. There is a guy named Ken Waldman who is a poet and who seems to show up everywhere in the lower 48 - I am wondering if it was him. Tallish, skinny, scraggly beard and hair? He has met many the former JV and the six degrees of seperation with that man is so small that in my mind I am sure he was the one you saw. I mean, I'm pretty sure he is the only Alaskan poet. :) I hope you are feeling better! Merry Christmas!
