oink: 新年快樂

all praise that i got my job before i learned about wikis on which people list their news and gossip about job prospects. i would have lost my mind if i were reading those things while perseverating over my placements. (i did however, learn that jss your classmate, the vegan has a new gig).

here's why i should not be allowed to be a parent. today as i was leaving Mass, a nickel rolled into the path of one of my Sunday School student's, her family and me. she and i locked eyes and i nodded to her that she should claim it. i winked, she smiled. her parents wondered aloud, who does that belong to? she and i looked at each other and shrugged. her parents replied immediately, to the poorbox then. she was crestfallen, i was chastened. that's how parents roll.

if anyone know what joshua clover has tatooed on his left arm, do tell. i went along to his lecture on friday night. he was clever and complacent and mostly complaisant until students' cell phones rang repeatedly. mireille and keith brought him for the raoul wallenberg studio that this year is dedicated to architecture and deceit. he lectured about form content and berlin. i wished that i was there in berlin.

i went along to a project that nick and his 200 +/- undergrad students cooked up at the university's totally uninspired + dull natural history museum. the students created hilarious smart dioramas, installations, interpretative programs, guided self-guided tours, brochures of brochures. i liked the installation of toast the best. but there were many many clever things: the appliances and devices like cell phones, keyboards, irons and on ca. 1990s encrusted in plaster as if excavated from a dig, uniformed women windexing the cases, text panels on radiators, fans, and benches, donation boxes at the water fountains, benches, stairs, and on. v. clever. again, though i wonder, how does one evaluate this kind of stuff.

i like my new lily allen cd.
