learning to listen

this past weekend was seriously the best weekend i have had in michigan. i was reminded of how important it is to organize. i was reminded of the power of interracial coalitions. i was reminded of how fun it is to laugh. the anu.rose.kelly show was unstoppable. we had such fun.saturday: two workshops, learning to listen; anu ran them with grace and aplomb. with lunch in between that was tasty and fun. i treated the three of us to massages. and, then, we scooped up neil and went out to dinner.
on sunday, anu met with holly hughes for a morning discussion about art and work and one-woman theater. then, the three of us rolled into detroit to plot the revolution with michigan welfare rights organization and call 'em out. it's been years since i felt so much a part of building a movement.
the revolution is coming and it will be led by a black woman with a salt and pepper wig and a red scooter.
this was my first very big event. i came in under budget and with great success.
- people learned things this weekend.
- people met each other.
- people inspired each other.
- people listened. and not just...kept their mouths closed until their turn to talk...people actually listened.
- i actually listened.
did you know that 48,000 people a year have their water cut-off in the city of detroit?
