st. practice day weekend
my mutha explained to me that in middle march, when municipal governments and civic organizations host their annual green gigs on days other than the 17th, it is known as st. practice day. today, at mass, when the priest announced that our bishop, like many others, explained we could eat meat this friday, someone near gasped and exclaimed "what!"
it has been sunny and warm here today. i got into a fit before church and insisted on cleaning our picture window. somehow, i didn't plan on disturbing a skunk who sublets a spot out front. i ended up following the sleepy little girl into the backyard while i cleaned the back siding and tidied the porch. lucky for me it was too early in the morning to get sprayed.
this little bit came in handy while i was at mass standing near one of my little people. he was acting out with his sister. i called him over and told him this story. he asked, "so that's why you were late to mass?"
it's overcast now, but, earlier, it was warm and sunny. i felt like snow white sitting on the back porch this afternoon reading and revising my diss.
