quickie morning entry

my mutha is so cruel. she is always and forever taunting me about who precisely are the readers of these musings. she quoted the line, the other day, about how i typed david and joan and some others wanted pictures...and she pressed me to identify and quantify these unspecified others. ruth: i do not name names. no matter what alberto gonzalez requests of me.

this morning i had a very very nice long note from val brown about her niece jennifer's wedding. blessing upon jen's marriage. it is wonderful how people can find each other and pair off, and in lucky cases, have families embrace each other. that's a treat. in val's case, 100+ family members -- his from the philipines and hers from the midatlantic--converged under a billowy tent to encircle the couple in a group hug right after flapping through "the chicken dance" and devouring a roasted pig that turned on a spit for hours. (good thing peta wasn't in southern maryland)
.

lest mama you think that joan is an imaginary friend like robbie douglas, i want to offer up three pictures that she sent me this morning. these are a good example of why i love joan:

she too finds the humor in life's little mundane moments. see the signage and the smokers? this is joan's new big girl office...she graduated to a window that overlooks the alley near MLK.

and she likes dogs.

she and chris keep two of their very own, willa and mena (see below); and they care for others at the local humane society. that is absolutely the lord's (lords') work to me because i can't bear the thought of seeing all the pooches who are about to be put down. i remember the fit that i had when karen and i went to a d.c. shelter in the early 1990s and i fell in love with crescent. and instead we drove to some old hoarding gal's farm near a civil war battle field and met ten.
